MAQUETTE MAKING

From the last session, our task was to create a few Maquette each of how the gallery could look on a scaled down rough version. Me and Charlotte teamed up to create one with a cereal box, this process was so much harder, time consuming and delicate than i anticipated. We used a range of materials to test out to see which is best for attaching the sides and sections together; Glustick, double sided sticky tape, masking tape and glue dots. We could have also tried a slotting system by creating a tab and slot, then pushing the sections together which gives it a cleaner look.

Basing it on the design sketch from the session, we tried to create  a room that got narrower near the end to emphasise the idea of growing up as you walk further down the gallery. We tried to add half wall sections along the gallery floor but this took away from the effect we were trying to get, disconnect from the idea of everything getting

normal' sized with age.

My second attempt was a little more successful as I spent more time measuring out the sides as well as having tabs on each piece, making it easier to construct together. I corrugated cardboard this time which was much thicker than the cereal box so I found it hard to make each piece stay in place as the weight, weight down each section, tearing them apart. Glue dots was the strongest material I had to hold them together which seemed to have worked well instead of DS sticky tape. I created the same shape for the gallery, but this time added a room at the end with a little peep hole which the viewer would look into which has VR behind to add a digital section to our gallery.

We also discussed in our groups about having beams attaching from one wall to the other so we could have shapes and art working hanging down. This seemed to be a good idea so that you can remove the roof/lid and still see the beams and detail hanging down without it coming up with the roof when removed. During this making process me and Charlotte found that it would take away from the idea of the room and objects in it becoming more normal sized,  taking away from the illusion.
